Little Foodies Week One

This summer I am teaming together with the FABULOUS Lisa at Creative Kids in Garwood, NJ to help turn your little munchkins into “Little Foodies!”  During this 6-week class, I will be teaching the kids new cooking techniques and the importance of good nutrition and Lisa will lead them in a craft that goes along with our food theme of the week.

Today was the first day of class and it was a big success!  We had 8 adorable Little Foodies in attendance and our recipe was Watermelon Stars and Blueberry Fruit Salad (in celebration of July 4th!).  We talked about how delicious watermelon is because it is sweet and juicy and everyone agreed that it was one of their favorite snacks.  The kids all sat around the table and cut different sized stars out of large slices of watermelon and then topped them with fresh blueberries.

We also colored in beautiful pictures of watermelons and made cool watermelon slices out of red and green foam sheets!  It was a great first day.

Watermelon Stars and Blueberry Fruit Salad

Seedless watermelon

Pint of blueberries, rinsed and dried

Star shape cookie cutter

Slice watermelon into 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick slices (a serrated knife works best). Lay flat on a plate or a covered table and cut out star shapes. Toss in a bowl with blueberries and enjoy!  (You can cut up the left over watermelon pieces and use them in a fruit salad).
